| Puberty Changes Puberty : changes that occur as little children become young adults and end up allowing for reproduction to place. There are many physical and emotional changes that occur during these times. Boys begin physical changes in puberty around 10 years old and finish physically growing around 18-19. The male hormone responsible for puberty changes is Testosterone. It is produced in the testicles and causes changes in boys such as increase muscle mass, square/broad shoulders, increased size of voicebox = deeper voice, facial and chest hair, and increased penis size. Girls begin physical changes in puberty between 8-10 and finish generally around 15-16. The female hormone responsible for puberty changes is Estrogen. Is is produced in the Ovaries and causes changes in girls such as the first menstrual cycle aka menarche, breast growth, and wider hips. Both genders actually have both hormones but obviously, boys should have more testosterone and girls should have more estrogen. Realistically, most changes boys and girls go through during puberty are the same. Actually, if you combine the changes that are the same with boys and girls and the changes that are different, boys actually go through more changes however, the changes girls go through or more major. |
