Review:

me vs myself = internal conflict and include dealing with one's emotions/feelings, stress and self concept

Mental and Emotional Health = includes expressions, personality, self concept, self esteem

Emotions are part of every person.  In Star Trek, the Vulcans were famous for suppressing their emotions or keeping them help
inside.  This isn't always a good idea.  Our emotions cause feelings which are temporary but powerful.  Feelings are expressed
whether we want them to or not.  Sometimes, people express feelings in positive ways while other times, they are expressed
negatively. It is important to express feelings in a positive, healthy way  because if they are not, they will eventually cause us or
someone else harm.

Suggestions on how to express feelings in a healthy way vary based on the feeling.  Sometimes, you may need to cry..other times,
writing about it, talking to someone or doing something enjoyable can help.  It all depends...

Our personality is by definition who we are.  It is defined by our genetics from birth, our cultural, religious and family influences and
the environment in which we live including our peer groups.  Someone's personality also helps to define their learning styles...some
people learn by seeing/reading..some learn by hearing/writing while still others learn from doing and experimenting.

Along with personality, comes the terms self concept and self esteem...

Self concept = how one looks at themselves which may or may not be different than someone else looks at you.
Self Esteem = how high or low one looks at themselves

A person with a positive/healthy self concept recognizes their strengths and weaknesses, their learning styles, and their goals in life
(short term at least if not long term).  A person with a healthy self esteem knows what their limitations are and makes learns to love
who they are.

Conversely, a person with a poor self concept thinks bad about themselves,  A person with a low self esteem may become
depressed, and a person with a self esteem too high, will push others away.

Not being able to positively express one's self, low self esteem and poor self concept and all lead to depression or worse!  It is
important to seek help if you are suffering.

Anger and Anger Control

See mental and emotional health sub-section on emotions/feelings and expressions

When Angry at someone, it is important to respond rather than React.  Wait 10 seconds before saying something back...take a
deep breath...walk away and give yourself a time out.  When we react, we often make a situation worse and say things harmful we
shouldn't have said

Stress and Stress Management

Stress = the body's reaction to change specifically, change it does not expect, does not want or feels threatened by
Eustress = positive stress    Distress = negative stress.

All stress can be negative if we don't know how to handle it.  For example, a wedding is a wonderful, beautiful time for husband
and wife and all the bridal party, families and friends.  It is however a very stressful time.  If wedding planning is done 1 thing at a
time in a realistic goal with shared responsibilities, it will stay positive.  If the wife is doing everything herself and things start going
wrong..it's negative.

Stress ends up effecting all areas of PISES and can lead to heart disease, muscle tension, confusion, loss of sleep, depression,
isolation from friends, poor grades and bad decisions.

When a person is effected by a stressor (something that causes stress), which is different for everyone, their body reacts the fight
or flight response.  Heart rate increases, breathing rate increases, digestive system slows down, and the body prepares itself as if it
was a real fight.  This is because of primitive animal instincts within all animals.

Stress management techniques such as creating lists of things to do, deep breathing, making "me time", goal setting, object
manipulation, exercise and many others, can be helpful in assisting someone in managing stress

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are extreme eating behaviors that can lead to serious illness or even death.

These disorders are often related to other problems, such as the following:

Unrealistic body image
Low self-esteem
Depression and other emotional pain

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder in which a person has an intense fear of weight gain and starves herself or himself.

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder in which a person repeatedly eats large amounts of food and then purges.

Binge eating disorder, or compulsive overeating, is an eating disorder in which a person repeatedly eats large amounts of food at
one time.
